Collecting postcards from people around the world has been a fun project for the girls already this year!
As their postcards come in the mail we find and flag the location on our large wall map and then look it up on a world atlas. Next, we read on interesting facts as well as unusual laws still on the books in that state or country.
Being the carefree home schoolers we are, this has been a fun long term assignment.
Yosemite ~ A 1,200 square mile park in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains ~ Home to the majestic sequoias which reach up to 300 feet and have been alive for aprox. 3,000 years.
Famous for her beautiful rock formations and grand waterfalls including the highest waterfall in North America at 2, 425 ft. Yosemite was the first state park.
Unusual laws in California:
No alcoholic beverages can be displayed within five feet of a cash register in any store that sells both motor oil and alcoholic beverages such as beer or wine. ( well that makes alot of sense)
No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour. (whew, thank goodness for this one)
Switzerland ~ There are four official languages in Switzerland. Switzerland has the 2nd highest live expectancy in Europe next to Sweden. A new president is elected every year. The average Swiss eats twenty-three pounds of chocolate per year compared to the 11.7 pounds consumed by each American annually. ( hmmm I am hearing chocolate = long life) Unusual law? In Switzerland, a man may not relieve himself while standing up, after 10pm. :0 Thanks for this one Anne!
The Littles do have toys. Really. However, they usually end up playing with items around the cabin that don't really make sense. For example:
a cape for batman's feet??
a badminton racket that has never been used to play badminton. Maybe I should tell them what it is... nah.
What can I say, they are home schooled. ;0)
Paint + shaving cream = fun
If you want to keep them busy for hours
give them this
and let them go
maybe we can try cool whip and food coloring next time so they can eat it. ;)
